Therapist Energy Audit: A Practical Worksheet for Neurodivergent Therapists

Helen Brown

IN BRIEF

An original four-page reflective worksheet helping neurodivergent therapists identify visible and invisible energy demands, notice capacity and recovery patterns, and consider realistic ways to make working life more sustainable.

FROM THE MEMBER

A worksheet for noticing where your energy actually goes, including the parts that never show up in a diary — masking, filtering sound, reading the room, holding uncertainty.
We made this because the tiring part of the week is so rarely the part that looks tiring written down. It isn’t a score and it isn’t a test. It’s a way of seeing the invisible half of the workload, which tends to be the half that catches up with you. Works on your own, and works well in supervision.

OUR REVIEW

The Therapist Energy Audit is an original worksheet created around the idea that a task’s visible size may not reflect its true energy cost. It explores client work and administration alongside less visible demands such as masking, sensory filtering, social monitoring, transitions, uncertainty and emotional attunement. Prompts cover capacity, recovery, early signs of overload and possible changes to protect, reduce, redesign, share, request or recover energy. It can be used individually or within supervision.

Why this may be of benefit

For neurodivergent therapists, it may help make hidden effort visible and support a more accurate sense of capacity. For anyone supporting neurodivergent people, it can open conversations about pacing, boundaries and sustainable working.
